Thousands Evacuated After Dam Bursts in Russian City of Orsk
A dam in the Orenburg region, near the border with Kazakhstan, broke on Friday night, resulting in significant flooding. The flooding affected over 2,500 homes and resulted in at least three reported deaths. Russian authorities evacuated more than 4,000 people due to the flooding, with Kazakhstan's president declaring it one of the worst natural disasters in the country's history. The flooding reached its "peak" according to the governor, Denis Pasler, and Russia has opened a criminal case for negligence and violation of construction safety rules regarding the burst dam. The number of evacuated people is reported to be 4,208 including 1,019 children.
