A pair of iconic ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz was sold at auction for a winning bid of $28 million. The bidding process was fast-paced, with a few bidders making offers by phone, volleying back and forth for 15 minutes. Online bidding had previously reached $1.55 million. The slippers were initially on display at the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and had been stolen nearly 20 years ago before being recovered. Heritage auctions facilitated the sale, with the slippers being originally appraised at $3 million or above.
