Thailand detects new mpox strain in traveler arriving from Africa
Thailand has reported a suspected first case of a new, more dangerous strain of mpox, specifically Clade 1. The patient, a 66-year-old European, recently traveled from Africa and arrived in Bangkok on August 14. Laboratory tests are underway to confirm the strain. This suspected case is separate from the 800 reported cases of mpox Clade 2 in Thailand since 2022.
