Tanker plane crash kills pilot in Oregon as Western wildfires continue to spread

A pilot was found dead in a crashed tanker plane that disappeared in eastern Oregon while fighting a wildfire. The single-engine tanker was located in steep, forested terrain after the search was suspended. The pilot was the only person on board. The plane was contracted by the US Bureau of Land Management and was fighting the Falls Fire, one of over 110 active fires burning 2,800 square miles across the Western US. The incident occurred near Seneca, on the edge of the Malheur National Forest.
