Taiwan Slams China's Threats to Impose Death Penalty on Independence Activists

China has issued new guidelines that threaten to impose severe punishment, including the death penalty in extreme cases, for individuals deemed to be "diehard" supporters of Taiwanese independence. The guidelines, which came into effect upon publication, aim to severely punish those who pursue secessionism for Taiwan. According to reports, Beijing views Taiwan as its own territory and has made no secret of its dislike for newly elected Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te.
