Syrian opposition fighters enter Hama

Syrian rebels, led by an Islamist group, have gained control of the city of Hama, a strategically important location in central Syria. The city, which was a site of mass uprisings against President Bashar al-Assad in 2011, was the target of a rebel attack that ultimately resulted in the Syrian army's withdrawal. The rebels claimed to have seized the city's prison and released hundreds of inmates, who they described as "wrongfully detained."
