Swiss-hosted Ukraine peace summit attracts global participation, Russia absent
The Ukraine peace summit is set to take place in central Switzerland and will feature nearly 90 countries and organizations. The event aims to lay the groundwork for a future peace summit and jointly define a roadmap towards ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Swiss President Viola Amherd stated that the aim of the event is to agree on a path towards ending the war, which started 28 months ago when Russian forces invaded Ukraine. Russia has not been invited to the summit due to its lack of interest in participating, as previously stated by Switzerland. However, officials suggest that Moscow can join the process down the line if it changes its stance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace proposals will serve as the basis for the summit.
The inaugural peace summit could become a format that would bring closer a just end to this war.
Putin will only applaud his absence, personally applaud it — and standing, at that.
