Sudan's Darfur Region Faces Genocide Fears Amid Rising Violence

The region of Darfur in western Sudan has a history marked by ethnic violence and humanitarian crises, with a brutal conflict in the early 2000s resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions displaced. Currently, the city of El Fasher, home to approximately 1.8 million people, is at the center of global concern as it has been encircled by fighters battling Sudan's military for control, leading to intense gunfights, hospital closures, and food shortages. Additionally, there are reports of genocide being committed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against non-Arabs in Darfur, according to human rights lawyer Mutasim Ali.
