Strong Quake Measuring 6.3 Magnitude Strikes Eastern Taiwan
On Monday, a series of earthquakes occurred in Taiwan's eastern county of Hualien. The first quake, with a reported magnitude of 5.5, hit at around 5:08 pm (0908 GMT) and was felt in the capital Taipei. This earthquake had a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), according to the Central Weather Administration. The administration also reported that a magnitude-6.3 aftershock followed, originating in the same general area where at least nine people were killed and hundreds were injured.
