Storm Boris causes widespread flooding and evacuations in northern Italy

Recent flooding in Italy has resulted in the evacuation of over 1,000 residents in the north-eastern region of Emilia Romagna, with serious flooding and disruption reported in the central region of Marche. Two people are missing, and the areas affected are the same as those hit by a devastating flood in May 2023 that killed 17 people and caused significant damage. The current flooding is attributed to torrential rain from Storm Boris, which has also caused damage and loss of life in central and eastern Europe. The Italian authorities have taken measures to mitigate the impact, including closing schools and cancelling trains in the affected areas.
