Stegosaurus Dinosaur Auction

Stegosaurus skeleton sells for record $44.6 million at auction

A 150-million-year-old stegosaurus skeleton, nicknamed "Apex", has been sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York City for $44.6 million to an anonymous American buyer. The fossil is considered one of the most complete ever found and measures 11 feet tall and 27 feet long from nose to tail. The sale smashed the prior record of $31.8 million set by Tyrannosaurus Rex Stan, with Apex's price exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $4-6 million. According to Cassandra Hatton, "Apex has now taken its place in history".
