South Africa's ANC Expels Former President Jacob Zuma Over Rival Party Affiliation

South Africa's former President Jacob Zuma has been expelled from the African National Congress (ANC) due to disciplinary proceedings. The ANC's disciplinary committee found Zuma guilty of prejudicing the integrity of the party. Zuma had been accused of campaigning to dislodge the ANC from power and had backed a rival party in the May parliamentary election, which resulted in the ANC losing its absolute parliamentary majority for the first time. The ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, stated that Zuma's conduct was "irreconcilable with the spirit of organization discipline and letter of the ANC constitution". Zuma has been given three weeks to appeal against the ruling.
