Shanghai hit by strongest typhoon since 1949

Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in the Yangtze River Delta region, specifically in the coastal area of Lingang New City in Shanghai's east, at around 7:30 a.m. local time on Monday. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain to the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui. Shanghai initiated a top-level emergency response on Sunday in preparation for the storm. The typhoon is considered the strongest to hit Shanghai since 1949, with wind speeds recorded at 151 kph (94 mph) near the eye. Over 414,000 people had been evacuated by Monday, and some coastal residents were advised to stay indoors. The storm caused power outages and injured at least one person. Schools were closed, and a 40km/h speed limit was imposed on roads inside the city.
