Seven people killed in Portugal wildfires as firefighters become trapped in blaze

Wildfires are raging across Portugal, with 54 blazes burning nationwide, mostly in the north. Eight water-bombing planes from France, Greece, Italy, and Spain have been deployed to assist in the efforts. Over 1,000 firefighters are battling four separate blazes near Nelas and Aveiro, with temperatures reaching 30C (86F) in the affected areas. At least seven people, including three firefighters, have died in the fires, which have burned over 10,000 hectares (37 sq miles) of land. The Portuguese Prime Minister has taken charge of the situation, describing the weather as "extremely difficult".
