Senegal's Constitutional Council overturns presidential election postponement

The Senegal Constitutional Court ruled against the postponement of the presidential election, which was initially scheduled for February 25, 2023. The court made this decision on Thursday, March 9, stating that it's no longer feasible to hold the election within ten days due to the delay, President Macky Sall's decree indefinitely postponing the balloting was unconstitutional. This decision came after opposition presidential candidates and lawmakers filed legal challenges against a bill passed by the National Assembly on February 5, which aimed to reschedule the election.
