Sea Shepherd Founder Paul Watson Arrested in Greenland

Paul Watson, a 73-year-old Canadian-American dual national and environmentalist, was arrested by police in Greenland under an international warrant issued by Japan. He was detained on July 22 while his ship, John Paul DeJoria, docked in Nuuk for refueling on its way to intercept Japan's whaling factory vessel. According to reports, Watson was handcuffed by officers on the bridge of his ship and will be brought before a district court where police will request his detention. The arrest is allegedly related to anti-whaling activities Watson conducted in the Antarctic years ago, which may lead to extradition to Japan.
