Russian missile strike on Ukrainian city of Poltava kills at least 49 people, officials say
A missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Poltava resulted in significant casualties, with varying reports of the death toll. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at least 41 people were killed and 180 wounded in the strike. However, other sources reported higher death tolls, with some stating that at least 49 people were killed and more than 200 others wounded. The strike targeted an educational facility and a nearby hospital, with many people trapped under the rubble. The Ukrainian government has launched a search and rescue operation, and the head of Ukraine's state-run electricity grid has been sacked. The U.S. is reportedly close to an agreement to provide Ukraine with long-range cruise missiles that could reach deep into Russia, but Kyiv would need to wait several months. The strike has been widely condemned by international leaders, with the UK describing it as a "sickening act of aggression" and Germany stating that Vladimir Putin's brutality "knows no limits."
I don't think he disagrees at all on the fact that nuclear power plants should never be attacked.
My thoughts are with all the victims and their loved ones. Westand with Ukraine.
One more time: restrictions imposed on Ukraine to use all weapons against Russia must be lifted. This is not about escalation, this is about the survival of innocent people.
This is a stunning tragedy for all of Ukraine. The enemy hit an educational institution and a hospital.
Soldiers have died here and I know there are still soldiers still under the rubble. Their wives are waiting for them.
I don't know how many more tragedies like this have to occur for all promises to be fulfilled and for all new commitments to be made.
We continue to urge everyone in the world who has the power to stop this terror.
My condolences to all the families and friends.
More than 180 people were injured. Unfortunately, there are many dead. As of now, 41 people have been reported dead.
I have ordered a full and prompt investigation into all the circumstances of what happened.
The Russian scum will definitely be held accountable for this strike.
We strongly believe that the decision on the early dismissal of the CEO of Ukrenergo is politically motivated and, based on the results of the presented report, there are no valid grounds for it.
I heard explosions ... I was at home at that time. When I left the house, I realized that it was something evil and something bad.
