Russian convicted of killing Anna Politkovskaya pardoned after fighting in Ukraine
Sergei Khadzhikurbanov was sentenced to 20 years in prison at a trial in 2014. He was one of five people convicted of the 2006 murder of Anna Politkovskaya. Her reporting for Novaya Gazeta gained international acclaim for its dogged investigation of Russian abuses in Chechnya.
