Russia-Ukraine War
Russian authorities detain Forbes journalist in connection with alleged extremism and disinformation on Bucha massacre
Russian authorities have arrested and charged several individuals with "extremism" or spreading false information regarding their military actions in Ukraine. Konstantin Gabov, a Russian journalist, has been arrested over accusations of extremism linked to YouTube videos on his channel. If convicted, he could face years in prison.
Rights groups claim that hundreds of Russians have been detained, fined, and jailed for criticizing Russia's offensive in Ukraine under strict military censorship laws. Those targeted include individuals who commented on Bucha, a Kyiv suburb where Russian troops are accused of massacring civilians. Moscow has denied these allegations, instead accusing Kyiv and the West of staging scenes of dead civilians and testimonies of torture.
Sergey Mingazov, a journalist for Forbes Russia, was detained for allegedly spreading false information about the Russian armed forces. His lawyer reported that he would be under house arrest for at least two months.
