Russia-Ukraine War
Russian Strike on Chernihiv Leaves 17 People Dead
Chernihiv, a city in northern Ukraine near the Russian border, was hit by Russian missile strikes resulting in numerous casualties and damage to infrastructure. The exact number of deaths varies from 15 to 17, with at least 61 people reported injured, including three children. Wounded individuals are being treated, and rescue operations are underway to find survivors. President Volodymyr Zelensky urged allies for more air defense equipment to prevent further attacks. The strikes damaged several multistorey residential buildings, hospitals, an education facility, and private cars. Zelensky blamed Russia for the attack and expressed concern over the rising death toll. Previous reports suggest that Chernihiv was spared from intense fighting during the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for three years. The U.S. aid package to provide air defense equipment to Ukraine is reportedly stalled in Congress.
