Russian Deputy Military Chief of Staff Jailed for Bribery

Russian Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, head of the defense ministry's main communications directorate and aide to Valery Gerasimov, the head of the Russian general staff, has been placed in custody by a military court on bribery charges. He is accused of accepting a large bribe, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. This arrest follows the detention of Major General Ivan Popov, a former top commander in Russia's offensive in Ukraine, also on bribery charges. Additionally, Vladimir Verteletsky, a senior procurement official at the defense ministry, was detained for "abuse of power".
