Russian Court Sentences US Citizen to 15 Years in Prison for Espionage

Gene Spector, a US citizen, has been involved in multiple cases of bribery and espionage in Russia. In 2020, he pled guilty to mediating bribes for Anastasia Alekseyeva. It is also reported that he was previously sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for enabling bribes to an aide of former deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich in September 2022. Furthermore, a Moscow court brought espionage charges against Spector in August 2023, and he was sentenced to 15 years in a strict-regime penal colony for espionage. It is worth noting that Russia has detained and sentenced multiple US citizens and dual nationals in recent years, often in secret trials.
