Russian Court Extends Detention of Radio Free Europe Journalist Alsu Kurmasheva
A Russian court has extended the detention of Alsu Kurmasheva, a journalist working for the US-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), until June 5. Kurmasheva had previously requested house arrest ahead of her trial on charges of spreading "false information." She was arrested for failing to register as a "foreign agent," and subsequently charged with spreading false information under new censorship laws. In 2022, she edited a book titled "Saying No to War."
