Boris Spassky, the Soviet-era chess grandmaster, has passed away at the age of 88. The Russian Chess Federation described his death as a "great loss for the country". Spassky is famously known for being defeated by Bobby Fischer in the "Match of the Century", which took place at the height of the Cold War.
