Russia, Ukraine exchange 206 prisoners in UAE-brokered deal
A prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine took place, resulting in the exchange of 206 individuals, with 103 from each side. The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that the 103 Ukrainian soldiers released were captured during Ukraine's incursion into the Kursk region. Some of the freed Russian prisoners had been held since May 2022, when Moscow seized the Azovstal steel plant. The exchange was facilitated by the United Arab Emirates, marking their eighth such mediation.
