Republicans close in on control of the US House after securing crucial election gains

The Republicans have gained control of the Senate and the White House, giving them a majority in both chambers of Congress. However, they still need to win a majority in the House of Representatives to have full control of the government. As of now, Republicans have won 213 seats in the 435-member House, which means they are five seats short of a majority.
