Putin warns West risks war if it backs Ukraine long-range strikes
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned the West that allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles to strike targets inside Russia would be considered a direct participation of NATO countries in the war in Ukraine. Putin stated that Ukraine would require data from Western satellites to carry out such strikes, implying that the West would be directly involved in the conflict. In contrast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been requesting permission from Kyiv's allies to fire Western missiles deep into Russian territory. US and UK officials have discussed easing rules on firing Western weapons into Russia, but President Biden has refused to allow Ukraine to use Western missiles on Russian military targets. Russia has also claimed to have recaptured a swath of territory in its western Kursk region.
Russia started this conflict. Russia illegally invaded Ukraine.
Second, we believe that if someone is thinking it is possible to supply such weapons to a war zone to strike our territory and create problems for us, why can't we supply our weapons of the same class to those regions around the world where they will target sensitive facilities of the countries that are doing this to Russia?
I think the next few weeks and months could be crucial, very, very important, that we support Ukraine in this vital war of freedom.
It would mean that NATO countries, the US, European countries, are at war with Russia.
So this is not a question of allowing the Ukrainian regime to strike Russia with these weapons or not. It is a question of deciding whether or not Nato countries are directly involved in a military conflict.
No matter who tries to stand in our way or create threats for our country and our people, they must know that Russia will respond immediately.
First, we will, of course, improve our air defence systems. We will be destroying their missiles.
It would substantially change the very essence, the nature of the conflict.
The decision has been made, the carte blanche and all indulgences have been given (to Kyiv), so we are ready for everything.
