Putin signs law to confiscate assets of military discreditors

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new law enabling authorities to seize assets from individuals convicted of spreading "deliberately false information" or inciting "extremist activities" and calling for actions harmful to state security. This legislation expands upon an existing law used against those discrediting the military, which has resulted in long prison terms for multiple activists, bloggers, and ordinary Russians. Kremlin officials maintain that this law is not related to Soviet-style confiscations.
