Baltimore Bridge Collapse
President Biden Approves $60 Million Aid for Rebuilding Collapsed Baltimore Bridge
Maryland Governor Wes Moore requested US$60 million in federal aid for the removal of debris from the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Federal Highway Administration approved the request shortly after. Two bodies have been recovered, and four others are presumed dead. The funding does not cover the reconstruction of the bridge but is intended to facilitate the removal of twisted metal and concrete from the Patapsco River. Massive barges carrying cranes were en route to the site to begin this challenging work and help reopen a key shipping route blocked by the span. The Biden administration has approved the emergency aid following the deadly collapse.
