Prague implements ban on night-time pub crawls in effort to curb rowdy tourism behavior
Prague, a European tourist hotspot, is implementing measures to discourage short-term, party-oriented tourists in favor of a more cultured and affluent demographic. The city's deputy mayor has stated a desire to attract tourists who are interested in experiencing the city's culture, rather than just its nightlife. To this end, the city council has banned night-time pub crawls, making it impossible to conduct guided tours between 10pm and 6am. This move aims to reduce the number of rowdy tourists and promote a more refined experience for visitors. Additionally, the city's stag-do travel agencies, which cater to groups of men celebrating bachelor parties, offer a range of unconventional and sometimes provocative activities, highlighting the city's existing reputation for party tourism.
It will not be possible to have guided tours between 10pm and 6am.
Being a destination that has profited for years on its reputation for being a bit of a party city, it seems like they're trying to have their cake and eat it with this.
I don't think this will hurt our sales. Nobody will be banned from going to a pub but these nightly organised pub crawls … are nothing we would need.
Trips to the centre in search of beer have been a problem for local people and for other tourists too.
