Portugal's Centre-Right Leader Luis Montenegro Nominated as Prime Minister

Portugal's President announced the appointment of Luis Montenegro as the new prime minister on Wednesday, replacing Antonio Costa who had been in power since 2015. Costa's Democratic Alliance (PS) had campaigned on promises to boost economic growth through tax cuts and improve unreliable public health services and education. Portugal's president invited Montenegro to form a minority government after the PS won 80 seats in the legislature, while the Socialists secured 78 seats and the far-right Chega party gained entry into parliament with five years of existence.
