Pope Francis and President Milei Meet After Canonization of Argentina's First Female Saint
On Sunday, Argentine President Javier Milei and Pope Francis had two encounters at St. Peter's Basilica. In one instance, Milei surprised many by embracing the pope during a papal mass, despite previously labeling him an "imbecile" for his advocacy of social justice. In another encounter before the mass, they exchanged handshakes and brief words. Milei is also scheduled to meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday, in addition to a private audience with Pope Francis.
Meanwhile, Argentina's first female saint, Saint Scholastica, was canonized for the first time on Sunday during a ceremony held at the Vatican. No information was provided regarding any connection between this event and Milei or Pope Francis' meetings.
