Polio Survivor Paul Alexander Passes Away After Living Decades in Iron Lung
Paul Alexander, a 78-year-old man known globally as "the man in the iron lung," passed away on March 11. He contracted polio when he was six years old and spent the remainder of his life encased in an iron lung to help him breathe. Despite being paralyzed from the neck down, Alexander taught himself to breathe independently for short periods. His brother Philip announced his death on Facebook but did not disclose the cause.
