Avian Flu
Person diagnosed with bird flu in Texas after contact with dairy cattle
There have been multiple reports of individuals in the United States being diagnosed with bird flu (Highly Pathagenic Avian Influenza, H5N1). All cases report eye redness as their only symptom at the onset, and they are currently undergoing treatment with antiviral drugs. The first human case was reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2022. Since then, there have been at least two additional cases reported by the CDC and another report from Texas health officials, making it a total of three confirmed cases. It is important to note that experts are concerned about the increasing number of mammals infected with the current H5N1 strain.
