Paris court upholds conviction of French ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy in illegal campaign funding

Nicolas Sarkozy was convicted of illegal campaign financing in September 2021 in a lower court and sentenced to one year in prison, which he will serve at home with an electronic monitoring bracelet due to the appeal process. He was found to have hidden overspending in his 2012 re-election campaign. Previously, Sarkozy had been charged with corruption, bribery, influence-peddling, and campaign finance infringements in a series of cases. The sentence was later reduced to six months on appeal.
