Palestinian President Abbas Appoints Mohammed Mustafa as New Prime Minister

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appointed Mohammed Mustafa as the new prime minister of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Mustafa, a long-trusted economic adviser to Abbas, will head a technocratic government with potential administrative control over Gaza. However, his appointment faces opposition from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and may encounter major obstacles. Mustafa's role includes the relief and rebuilding of the Gaza Strip and reforming the institutions of the Palestine Authority. The PA previously held administrative control over Gaza until 2007. Abbas assigned Mustafa to lead reforms in the government, security services, and economy and fight corruption as part of US pressure for reform within the Palestinian Authority following Israel's war on Gaza.
