Pakistan Government Moves to Prohibit Imran Khan's Party Amidst Economic Crisis Concerns

Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been imprisoned since August 2023 on corruption, treason, and illegal marriage charges. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which he leads, was prevented from fielding candidates in recent elections. The government has decided to ban the PTI, citing credible evidence of its involvement in anti-state activities. This decision comes despite a Supreme Court ruling that favored the party just days prior. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar made the announcement, alleging that the opposition party is involved in treasonous activities and plans to bring charges against Khan and two other senior leaders.
