Paetongtarn Shinawatra becomes Thailand's youngest prime minister after being elected by parliament

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the 37-year-old daughter of billionaire tycoon and former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has become the youngest leader in Thailand's history as a constitutional monarchy. She won 319 votes in the House of Representatives, which is nearly two-thirds of the house, and will be the country's second female prime minister, after her aunt Yingluck. Paetongtarn is the third member of her family to become Prime Minister, following in the footsteps of her father and aunt. Her appointment comes after a court ruling ousted former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, and she will lead the country through a period of economic crisis.
