Opposition leader Yaya Dillo killed in Chad shootout

There have been reports of heavy gunfire near the headquarters of Chadian opposition party leader Yaya Dillo's residence, following tensions leading up to the presidential election scheduled for May 6. On Wednesday, Dillo was killed during an exchange of fire with security forces after several people were reportedly killed in earlier clashes near the National Security Agency building. The government spokesman announced Dillo's death, stating that it occurred "where he had retreated." Dillo and President Deby Itno are both from the same Zaghawa ethnic minority.
