One dead and 30 injured after London-Singapore flight encounters severe turbulence
A Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore experienced severe turbulence on its journey, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members when it encountered the turbulence, causing a 73-year-old British man to die, likely due to a heart attack. At least 12 people were treated in hospitals for their injuries, while eight others were hospitalized. The flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, Thailand, where emergency vehicles rushed onto the tarmac to treat those affected. The incident occurred when the plane suddenly plummeted from a cruising altitude of 37,000 feet to 31,000 feet within three minutes, according to FlightRadar24 data.
Clear air turbulence is air movement created by atmospheric pressure, jet streams, air around mountains, cold or warm weather fronts or thunderstorms.

It can be caused by what are called gravity waves that cause undulations in the air that you can't see. The only way pilots know about it is to hear about it from a previous pilot. Pilots often listen to what a person who took that same flight path a few minutes earlier say. That's the best way to detect these turbulence events.
