Nuclear Energy Summit
Nuclear Energy Leaders Adopt Declaration in Brussels for Industry Revival
During the Nuclear Energy Summit, over 30 countries that currently operate nuclear power plants adopted a declaration committing to expanding nuclear energy production as a means to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This includes the construction of new nuclear power plants and the early deployment of advanced reactors. The summit, which was previously unthinkable following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan, has become more acceptable due to the pressing need to phase out fossil fuels and reduce dependence on Russian energy sources. The one-day meeting is being held near the Atomium in Brussels. However, opponents of nuclear power warn against the risks associated with expanding its production.
