Northern Ireland's DUP Leader Jeffrey Donaldson Resigns After Sexual Offence Charges

Jeffrey Donaldson, the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), resigned on Friday following charges of historical sex offenses. The DUP announced his resignation in a statement, confirming that Donaldson had been charged with allegations of a historical nature. The party also suspended his membership and removed his image from their website. A 57-year-old woman was also charged with aiding and abetting these offenses. Police in Northern Ireland reported the arrest and charging of a 61-year-old man for non-recent sexual offenses, which led to Donaldson's resignation. The DUP stated that Donaldson had resigned with immediate effect and was suspended from membership pending the outcome of the judicial process. Both suspects are due in court on April 24.
