Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso Exit ECOWAS Regional Bloc After Wave of Coups

Three military-ruled countries, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, have officially withdrawn from the West African regional alliance, ECOWAS. The withdrawal is effective immediately, as stated by ECOWAS. The three countries have been at odds with ECOWAS, accusing the bloc of having double standards in punishing military juntas. The regional bloc offers its members visa-free travel, favorable trade tariffs, and access to a $702 million fund.
