Nicaraguan lawmakers approve reforms expanding President Ortega's power

The reforms implemented in Nicaragua grant increased authority to President Daniel Ortega, his wife Vice President Rosario Murillo will assume the position of co-president, and extend the presidential term from five to six years. These changes have been sanctioned internationally for human rights abuses. The reforms also increase the president's control over the media.
