NZ High Commissioner Comments on Trump
New Zealand sacks diplomat over comments critical of Trump's understanding of World War II history
Phil Goff, New Zealand's high commissioner to the United Kingdom, was removed from his position after drawing parallels between US President Donald Trump's stance on the war in Ukraine and the 1938 Munich Agreement, which allowed Nazi Germany to annex parts of Czechoslovakia. Goff made the comparison during a forum in London, citing Winston Churchill's speech to the House of Commons in 1938.
New Zealand's office of Foreign Minister Winston Peters declared Goff's position "untenable".
