New York City Mayor Eric Adams Indicted on Federal Charges
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing a federal corruption investigation and is expected to be indicted, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first sitting NYC mayor to face charges. The specifics of the charges remain undisclosed, but Adams has denied any wrongdoing and vowed to fight the charges with every ounce of his strength and spirit. In a video statement, Adams implied that he had not been informed of the indictment and stated that if charges were filed, they would be "entirely false, based on lies." Adams has released a statement saying he will remain in office while fighting the charges. At least four federal probes are underway against Adams, a Democratic ex-cop who was elected nearly three years ago on promises to tackle crime.
While the mayor is presumed innocent until proven guilty and deserves due process, the Board will nonetheless review all relevant information, including but not limited to the indictment, in order to uphold our city's campaign finance rules and protect taxpayer dollars.
I can't say how devastating I think it is where our city is today.
However, it is clear that defending himself against serious federal charges will require a significant amount of the time and attention needed to govern this great city. The most appropriate path forward is for him to step down so that New York City can get the full focus its leadership demands.
Mayor Adams, like all New Yorkers, deserves due process, the presumption of innocence, and his day in court.
The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening government function.
I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City. The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening gov function. Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration. For the good of the city, he should resign.
I have been facing these lies for months ... yet the city has continued to improve.
I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target -- and a target I became.
For anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crimes should not be in jail to now say that the second Black mayor of New York should resign because of rumours and innuendo – without even a single charge being filed – is the height of hypocrisy.
If it's foreign donors, I know I don't take money from foreign donors.
My fellow New Yorkers, it is now my belief that the federal government intends to charge me with federal crimes. If so, these charges will be entirely false, based on lies.
I will request an immediate trial so New Yorkers can hear the truth.
I watched about a year ago when he talked about how the illegal migrants are hurting our city ... and I said you know what, he'll be indicted within a year.
The Turkish official got what he wanted, and as we explained in the indictment, just four days after Adams held up his end of the bargain, he went right back to soliciting more travel benefits.
In 2023 the mayor rekindled these corrupt relationships, seeking more illegal campaign contributions from some of the same foreign sources to support his re-election campaign.
This was a multi-year scheme to buy favour with a single New York City politician on the rise.
Adams abused his privilege and broke the law.
