New Delhi Airport Roof Collapses Amid Heavy Rains
A portion of the canopy at the old Departure forecourt of Delhi's Terminal 1 collapsed due to heavy rain and strong winds early on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 5 am, causing all departures from Terminal 1 to be temporarily suspended. Rescuers arrived at the scene to find that two support pillars had collapsed onto a car.
The heavy rainfall was unprecedented, with the airport area recording 148.5 millimeters of rain in just three hours, exceeding the average monthly rainfall for June. The Safdarjung weather station reported an even more staggering 228.1 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Friday.
