Israel-Palestine Conflict
Netanyahu orders airstrike killing at least 90 Palestinians, targeting senior Hamas commander Mohammed Deif
The Israeli army conducted major strikes in Khan Yunis region of Gaza on Saturday, targeting what they claimed was a walled enclosure with low buildings, which they presented as evidence of their attack. The strikes caused significant damage and civilian casualties, leading Hamas to withdraw from cease-fire talks.
Israeli airstrikes targeting Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif and his deputy Rafa Salama in Khan Younis, Gaza, have resulted in significant casualties. According to Gaza's health ministry, at least 90 Palestinians were killed and 289 others injured. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the strikes took place but stated there is no absolute certainty that either Deif or Salama was killed.
Deif, the head of Hamas' military wing, has survived at least seven previous Israeli assassination attempts. He is considered one of the masterminds behind the October 7 surprise attack on southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people. Netanyahu acknowledged that Deif's involvement in the attack makes him a high-priority target.
