Netanyahu Criticizes US Arms Supply, White House Responds
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been critical of the Biden administration's supply of munitions for the war in Gaza Strip. He accused the US of withholding weapons, which was met with frustration from the White House. The White House clarified that there is only one shipment of 2,000-pound bombs under review and expressed concern over rising civilian deaths. Netanyahu defended his decision to go public about the delays, claiming that Secretary of State Antony Blinken assured him that the US would provide necessary support. However, it's worth noting that the exact nature of the delays and the extent of the withheld weapons remain unclear, with some reports suggesting that the issue may be more complex than initially portrayed.
I will discuss this transition with U.S. officials, touching on how it may enable additional things [to take place], and I know that we will achieve close cooperation with the U.S. on this issue as well.
The United States is our most important and central ally. Our ties are crucial and perhaps more important than ever, at this time.
We did it at the highest levels, and at all levels, and I want to emphasize - we did it in private rooms. We got all sorts of explanations, but one thing we didn't get: the basic situation didn't change.
For long weeks, we turned to our American friends and requested that the shipments be expedited. We did that time after time.
About four months ago, there was a dramatic drop in the supply of armaments arriving from the US to Israel. For weeks we asked our American friends to speed up the shipments. We did it time and time again.
Those comments were deeply disappointing and certainly vexing to us, given the amount of support that we have and will continue to provide.
