Napoleon's Pistols Sell for €1.69 Million at Auction
Two pairs of pistols, once intended for Napoleon Bonaparte's suicide in 1814, have been sold at an auction in Fontainebleau for €1.69 million (approximately $1.8 million). The buyer's identity remains anonymous. According to reports, Napoleon had planned to use the pistols to end his life after being forced to abdicate as Emperor of France, but he ultimately took poison instead and survived due to vomiting it up. The pistols, crafted by Parisian gunmaker Louis-Marin Gosset, feature intricate gold and silver inlays and a carved image of Napoleon in imperial regalia. They were expected to fetch between €1.2 million and €1.5 million at the Osenat auction house on Sunday.
